What is a roots blower and where is it used?
A roots (twin-lobe) blower is a positive-displacement machine: two figure-of-eight lobes rotate in mesh to trap and push a fixed volume of air each revolution, delivering oil-free low-pressure air. It's the standard choice for ETP/STP aeration, pneumatic conveying, water-treatment air scour and aquaculture — anywhere you need steady airflow at modest pressure rather than high pressure.
What pressure and flow range do these blowers cover?
Positive-displacement (roots and screw) blowers are low-to-medium-pressure machines — typically used up to around 0.5–1 kg/cm² (roughly 500–1000 mbar) on the pressure side, with airflow from a few m³/min up to several hundred m³/min depending on frame size. Twin-lobe vs helical screw blower — which is more energy-efficient?
Helical screw blowers use internal compression and a profiled rotor to cut the energy penalty of straight twin-lobe designs — typically saving meaningful power at the same duty, with lower noise. Twin-lobe still wins on first cost and simplicity. On a plant that runs 24×7, the screw blower's lower running cost usually pays back the price difference; on intermittent duty, twin-lobe is often the better value.
